China’s Yangtze River is once again swelling, as Typhoon Gaemi brings heavy rainfall, triggering the third flood of 2024. The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed the development on Monday, raising concerns over the river’s rising water levels.
At 6:50 p.m. on Monday, the water level at Lianhuatang hydrological station—a key monitoring point in the middle reaches of the Yangtze—surpassed the warning threshold, reaching 32.5 meters. This critical juncture signals heightened flood risks for communities along the riverbanks.
In response, the Ministry of Water Resources has initiated flood-relief operations. Among these measures is the treatment of dike breaches in central China’s Hunan Province, aiming to mitigate the potential impact on local populations and infrastructure.
As Typhoon Gaemi continues to influence weather patterns in the region, authorities remain on high alert. Residents are advised to stay informed and follow official guidance to ensure safety during this period of increased flood activity.
