China has allocated 238 million yuan (approximately $33.35 million) to aid disaster relief and restore agricultural production in five regions devastated by recent floods, the Ministry of Finance announced on Tuesday.
The funds are earmarked to manage flood-damaged crops, repair agricultural facilities, and support flood control efforts, including drainage of waterlogged fields. The initiative aims to mitigate the impact of the floods on agricultural production in Henan, Hunan, Chongqing, Sichuan, and Shaanxi provinces.
Persistent heavy rainfall has battered these regions, causing widespread flooding and significant damage to farmlands. The government’s swift response underscores its commitment to ensuring food security and supporting rural communities affected by natural disasters.
In addition to financial aid, authorities are mobilizing resources to assist farmers in replanting and recovering lost crops. Efforts include the provision of seeds, fertilizers, and technical guidance to expedite the restoration of agricultural activities.
Meanwhile, China’s national observatory issued an orange alert for rainstorms on Tuesday—the second-highest level in the country’s four-tier warning system. Heavy rainfalls of up to 200 millimeters are forecasted in the next 24 hours for regions including Beijing, Hebei, Tianjin, Chongqing, Yunnan, and Guangdong.
The observatory also released a yellow alert for severe convective weather, warning of potential thunderstorms, gales, and hail in areas such as Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Hebei, and Tianjin through Wednesday.
The Ministry of Finance emphasized the importance of proactive measures to safeguard crops and minimize agricultural losses. Local governments are urged to prioritize disaster relief efforts and ensure the effective utilization of the allocated funds.
This initiative reflects China’s broader efforts to stabilize agricultural production amidst challenging weather conditions and reaffirm its commitment to rural development and food security.
