Fujian Province Braces for Typhoon Gaemi
As Typhoon Gaemi, the third typhoon of the year, edges closer to southeast China’s Fujian Province, local authorities have undertaken a massive evacuation effort to safeguard residents. By 7 a.m. on Thursday, over 156,800 people had been relocated from vulnerable areas, demonstrating the province’s commitment to public safety.
Coastal activities have been significantly affected as precautionary measures intensify. A total of 73 passenger ferry routes along Fujian’s coastline have been suspended, and 97 flights have been canceled, leaving travelers to adjust their plans amid the approaching storm.
The maritime community is also feeling the impact. More than 29,000 individuals working on fishing rafts have been brought ashore, and 733 fishing vessels have taken refuge in ports. Approximately 3,200 people aboard these boats have been evacuated to safety, according to the provincial flood control office.
