Indonesia Finalizes Carbon Capture Regulation Awaiting Presidential Approval

Indonesia has taken a significant step towards reducing global carbon emissions by finalizing regulations for implementing carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. Dadan Kusdiana, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, announced on Tuesday that the regulation has completed the harmonization process and is now awaiting President Joko Widodo’s approval.

“The regulation has completed the harmonization process and is now in the process of obtaining approval from the president,” Kusdiana said during a webinar on carbon trading in Jakarta.

The implementation of CCS is part of Indonesia’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability and combating climate change. By capturing and storing carbon emissions, the country aims to mitigate the environmental impact of its energy sector.

Kusdiana also highlighted that Indonesia is expanding the use of renewable energy and other low-carbon energy sources alongside the development of CCS technology. This multi-faceted approach underscores Indonesia’s dedication to transitioning towards a greener economy.
