China Issues Blue Alert as Typhoon Gaemi Approaches South

As Typhoon Gaemi gathers strength over the Pacific, China’s National Meteorological Center has issued a blue alert, signaling potential heavy winds and rainfall across the nation’s southern regions.

On Tuesday morning, authorities reported that Typhoon Gaemi, the third typhoon of the year, was located approximately 710 kilometers southeast of Yilan County in China’s Taiwan region. Moving northwest at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour, the typhoon is expected to intensify gradually as it approaches the Chinese mainland.

The blue alert, the lowest level in China’s four-tier color-coded weather warning system—with red being the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue—urges caution as strong winds and heavy rains are anticipated.

Parts of Taiwan and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region are forecasted to experience heavy rainstorms from Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning, with precipitation levels reaching between 50 and 70 millimeters.

Gales are also expected to sweep across the East China Sea, the South China Sea, the Bashi Channel, the Taiwan Strait, the Beibu Gulf, and coastal areas of Guangxi and Taiwan during this period.

Local authorities have been advised to prepare emergency responses and remain vigilant against potential flooding and geological disasters. The National Meteorological Center emphasized the importance of readiness to minimize the typhoon’s impact on communities and infrastructure.

Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to stay informed about weather updates and follow safety guidelines issued by local officials.
