China Boosts Flood Rescue Efforts with Additional Funding
China has allocated an additional 848 million yuan (approximately $118.9 million) to bolster flood rescue operations across several regions, according to the Ministry of Finance (MOF) on Tuesday.
The funds, jointly allocated by the MOF and the Ministry of Water Resources, aim to support local authorities in central, eastern, southern, southwestern, and northeastern areas severely affected by recent floods. Provinces set to receive aid include Hunan, Jiangxi, Hubei, and Guangdong.
Priority will be given to repairing water infrastructure and eliminating hidden risks to prevent further disasters. Earlier this year, the MOF had already distributed funds in batches to assist with disaster relief efforts, demonstrating the government’s ongoing commitment to mitigating the impact of natural calamities.
Significant progress has been made in emergency response measures, particularly in Hunan Province, where a breach in a dike at Dongting Lake—the country’s second-largest freshwater lake—was successfully sealed. Authorities reported that efforts to drain flooded land and reduce residual risks are continuing.
To reinforce rescue operations, the National Fire and Rescue Administration dispatched 219 rescue workers along with 72 fire trucks and flood drainage vehicles to Hunan Province. Their swift action has been instrumental in assisting local communities affected by the floods.
These comprehensive efforts reflect China’s dedication to safeguarding its citizens and infrastructure against natural disasters. As climate patterns continue to pose challenges, the nation’s proactive measures aim to enhance resilience and support recovery in flood-stricken regions.
