China Activates Level-IV Emergency Response to Flooding in Chongqing

In response to heavy rainfall and impending severe weather conditions, China’s State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters activated a Level-IV emergency response on Monday for flooding in southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Management, meteorological forecasts predict heavy downpours and rainstorms across the Sichuan Basin from Monday to Tuesday. Some regions within the basin may experience continuous rainstorms extending through Saturday.

On Monday, weather authorities issued an orange alert—the second-highest level—for rainstorms in the region, signaling the potential for significant flooding and related disasters. The Level-IV emergency response initiated is the lowest in China’s four-tier emergency response system but indicates a heightened state of readiness for possible flooding incidents.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay alert and follow instructions from local authorities. Emergency teams are on standby to provide assistance and mitigate the impact of the flooding.
