On December 6, 2023, an environmental enforcement team from the Xiamen Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau demonstrated China’s firm stance on environmental protection. The team conducted a surprise on-site inspection at a rubber manufacturing company in Xiamen, a coastal city in southeast China’s Fujian Province.
The inspectors meticulously sampled and tested exhaust gases emitted during the company’s production processes. Their findings were alarming: non-methane emissions at a monitoring point exceeded the permissible limits established by the “Emission Standard of Air Pollutants for Xiamen” (DB 35/323-2018). This violation breached Article 18 of the “Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Atmospheric Pollution.”
In response, the Ecological Environment Bureau of Xiamen imposed a hefty fine of 123,435 yuan on the company and ordered immediate corrective actions to bring emissions within legal standards. This decisive enforcement underscores China’s commitment to safeguarding the environment and holding polluters accountable.
