Navigation Resumes as Xijiang River Water Levels Recede Below Warning Line in Southern China

Authorities in Wuzhou City, located in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, have lifted navigation suspensions on the Xijiang and Guijiang rivers as water levels continue to decline below warning thresholds.

At 4 a.m. on Monday, the water level at Wuzhou Hydrological Station receded to 18.40 meters, dipping below the warning level of 18.5 meters. This marked a significant reduction in the peak flood level of the Xijiang River, bringing relief to the region that had been on high alert due to recent flooding.

The water levels of all rivers in Wuzhou are now reported to be below warning levels. The Xunjiang, Xijiang, and Guijiang rivers, along with their tributaries, are gradually receding, signaling a return to normalcy for the local communities and businesses that depend on these waterways.

In response to the improving conditions, the Wuzhou Maritime Safety Administration has been actively guiding and managing navigation for vessels that were previously halted due to the high water levels. At 10 a.m. on Monday, the administration lifted the Level IV flood control emergency response, fully resuming navigation operations on both the Guijiang and Xijiang rivers.

The resumption of navigational activities is expected to bolster economic activities in the region, particularly for industries reliant on river transport. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety and efficiency of maritime operations.
