China Warns of Mountain Torrents in Zhejiang, Jiangxi, and Hunan Provinces

China’s meteorological and water resources authorities have issued an orange alert warning of potential mountain torrents in several eastern provinces. The alert, released on Sunday evening by the Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration, cautions residents and travelers in parts of Zhejiang, Jiangxi, and Hunan provinces about the heightened risk from 8 p.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Monday.

The warning comes as heavy rainfall is expected to increase the likelihood of mountain torrents, which can lead to sudden and dangerous flooding in hilly and mountainous areas. Local authorities are urging communities to stay vigilant, monitor weather updates, and follow any safety guidelines issued.

Mountain torrents pose significant risks to life and property, particularly in regions with steep terrain and vulnerable infrastructure. The orange alert—the second-highest in China’s four-tier warning system—indicates a high probability of hazardous conditions.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to avoid rivers, streams, and low-lying regions, and to secure their homes against potential flooding. Travelers planning to visit these provinces should stay informed about local weather conditions and heed any advisories.

The Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
