A magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck the waters off Indonesia’s Tanimbar Islands, the country’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has reported. The quake occurred at a depth of 153 kilometers beneath the seabed.
The BMKG stated that there is no potential for a tsunami resulting from the earthquake. However, residents have been advised to remain vigilant due to the possibility of aftershocks.
No Immediate Reports of Damage
As of now, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage in the affected areas. The remote location of the Tanimbar Islands, situated in the eastern part of Indonesia, often means that seismic events have a reduced impact on densely populated regions.
