Deadly Storm Hits South-Central Chile, Displacing Thousands

An intense storm has swept through south-central Chile, leaving one person dead and forcing over 11,000 people from their homes, according to local authorities on Monday.

Heavy rains inundated nine regions—from Coquimbo to Los Rios—causing widespread flooding, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to daily life. The storm overwhelmed riverbanks and drainage systems, leading to evacuations and emergency responses across the affected areas.

As the storm subsides, lighter showers are forecasted for the same regions on Tuesday, offering some respite to emergency services and residents. Recovery efforts are underway to assess the damage and begin the rebuilding process.

The Chilean government has mobilized resources to assist the affected communities, emphasizing the need for preparedness in the face of increasingly unpredictable weather patterns in the region.
