Extreme Early-Summer Heat Wave Peaks in Western U.S.; Experts Warn of Brutal Summer Ahead

An extreme early-summer heat wave peaked on Thursday across much of the western United States, leaving millions grappling with a sudden and sharp rise in temperatures.

In Las Vegas, temperatures soared to a scorching 44 degrees Celsius, while in the Death Valley desert, the mercury was expected to surpass a blistering 49 degrees Celsius. An oppressive high-pressure weather system has been smothering the region, causing widespread concern.

The National Weather Service issued a bulletin stating, “Widespread high and low temperature records are likely to be tied or broken between California, Nevada, and Arizona today.”

Experts warn that these unseasonably high temperatures could signal the start of a brutal summer. Dangerously hot conditions in Las Vegas have been running 10-15 degrees above average, prompting authorities to extend an excessive heat advisory into Saturday.

Residents and visitors across the affected areas are scrambling to cope with the extreme heat, taking measures to stay cool and hydrated. Emergency services are on high alert as the risk of heat-related illnesses increases.
