Typhoon Maliksi Makes First Landfall in China in 2024, Bringing Heavy Rains

Guangdong Province, China — Typhoon Maliksi made landfall in Yangxi County, Yangjiang City, in south China’s Guangdong Province at around 12:55 a.m. on June 1, becoming the first typhoon to hit China this year. Arriving as a tropical storm, Maliksi quickly weakened to a tropical depression after making landfall.

Despite its weakening, the typhoon brought abundant warm and moist air, leading to heavy rainfall across several provinces. The Chinese Meteorological Administration forecasts that Maliksi will continue to weaken throughout the day, but its effects will still be felt in Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, and Jiangxi provinces.

Residents in these regions are advised to take precautionary measures as heavy to torrential rains are expected, particularly in the southeastern coast of China, eastern Jiangxi, and southern Zhejiang. The downpours could lead to flooding and disruptions, emphasizing the need for vigilance among local communities and authorities.

The arrival of Typhoon Maliksi marks an early start to China’s typhoon season in 2024. Business professionals, travelers, and residents alike are encouraged to stay updated on weather advisories and plan accordingly to ensure safety and minimize disruptions.
