Beijing, China—China’s National Meteorological Center has renewed a yellow alert for rainstorms as heavy downpours are forecasted to sweep across parts of the country from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon. Residents in several southern provinces are urged to prepare for severe weather conditions.
Significant rainfall is expected in portions of Hunan, Jiangxi, Fujian, and Guangdong provinces, as well as the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, according to the meteorological center. Some areas may experience intense downpours with maximum hourly precipitation surpassing 80 millimeters, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong gales.
Local authorities have been advised to implement emergency measures to mitigate the potential impacts of the heavy rainfall. Traffic management departments are encouraged to enforce appropriate controls on affected roadways to ensure public safety. Additionally, the center suggests disconnecting at-risk outdoor power sources, suspending outdoor activities in open areas, and relocating individuals from vulnerable locations to safer areas.
China employs a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system to inform the public about severe weather conditions. The system ranks alerts as red, orange, yellow, and blue, with red indicating the most severe conditions. A yellow alert signifies that significant weather is expected, which may cause inconveniences and potential hazards if proper precautions are not taken.
The renewed alert underscores the importance of preparedness among communities and officials in the affected regions. The heavy rainfall poses challenges not only to daily life but also to transportation, agriculture, and economic activities in these vital areas of the Chinese mainland.
