Icelandic Volcano Erupts Fourth Time in Three Months, Lighting Up Night Sky

In a spectacular display of nature’s force, a volcano in Iceland erupted Saturday evening for the fourth time in three months, casting brilliant orange jets of lava into the night sky. The eruption has once again drawn attention to the country’s active volcanic landscape.

Iceland’s Meteorological Office reported that the eruption opened a fissure approximately three kilometers (almost two miles) long between the Stora-Skogfell and Hagafell mountains on the Reykjanes Peninsula. This significant geological event has created a dramatic scene as molten lava flows from the newly formed fissure.

This recent activity aligns with weeks of warnings from the Met Office. Scientists had cautioned that magma—semi-molten rock—was accumulating beneath the ground, indicating that an eruption was likely imminent. Their predictions came to fruition with this latest eruption, emphasizing the dynamic nature of the region.
