Hungarian Artist Transforms Discarded Tires into Sculptures to Highlight Recycling

In Hungary, artist Gabor Barath is turning discarded car tires into thought-provoking sculptures to raise awareness about recycling and environmental conservation. Amid Europe’s ongoing struggle with pollution, Barath finds inspiration in materials most consider waste.

“Many car owners don’t know how to get rid of their old tires,” Barath explains. “People don’t realize the environmental harm caused by improper tire disposal. My sculptures serve as a visual reminder of this issue.”

Despite Hungary recycling around 60 percent of its tires annually, a significant number still end up littering forests and fields, marring the natural landscape. Recycling specialist Gabor File highlights the severity of the problem: “For many years, people just discarded tires in our forests. They would leave the tires anywhere they could, causing a serious problem.”

Barath’s creative approach not only gives new life to used materials but also sparks conversations about sustainable practices. His work challenges society to rethink waste and consider the impact of everyday actions on the environment.
