China’s National Meteorological Center (NMC) renewed a yellow alert on Sunday for low temperatures expected to sweep across vast areas of the country in the coming days.
From Sunday morning until 8 a.m. Wednesday, regions including parts of Guizhou, Xinjiang, and the Sichuan Basin are forecasted to experience daily minimum temperatures 5 to 7 degrees Celsius lower than the historical average for this period, according to the NMC.
In some areas of Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou, and Guangxi, temperatures are expected to plunge over 7 degrees Celsius below seasonal norms. The significant drop in temperatures has prompted authorities to urge residents to take necessary precautions.
Community Preparedness and Precautions
The NMC has warned residents in the affected regions to reduce outdoor activities to minimize exposure to the cold conditions. Local authorities have been advised to implement measures against road icing, which could pose risks for transportation and daily commuting.
Agricultural sectors are also on alert as the sudden temperature decline may cause damage to crops and livestock. Farmers are encouraged to secure their produce and ensure adequate shelter for animals to mitigate potential losses.
Understanding the Alert System
The yellow alert is part of a four-tier weather warning system in China, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow, and blue. The NMC’s continued monitoring aims to provide timely updates to help communities prepare and respond effectively.
Staying Informed
Residents are advised to stay updated through official channels and follow guidance from local authorities. Taking proactive steps can help ensure safety and reduce the potential impact of the extreme weather conditions.
