San Diego Zoo Safari Park Launches Year of the Dragon Celebrations

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park kicked off a two-day special event on Saturday to celebrate the Chinese New Year, marking the beginning of the Year of the Dragon. The festivities aim to honor Chinese culture and strengthen cross-cultural connections.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Paul Baribault, president and CEO of the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. Special guest Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles, Guo Shaochun, attended the event, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

“We are delighted to celebrate the Year of the Dragon with our community and visitors from around the world,” said Baribault. “This event not only showcases the rich traditions of Chinese culture but also reinforces our commitment to wildlife conservation and global collaboration.”

The celebration features traditional Chinese performances, including lion dances, cultural music, and lantern displays throughout the park. Visitors can participate in interactive activities, enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine, and learn about conservation efforts for species native to Asia.

Consul General Guo expressed appreciation for the park’s efforts to promote cultural exchange. “Events like this bring people together and foster mutual understanding,” he remarked. “It is heartening to see the community embrace Chinese New Year and celebrate with such enthusiasm.”
