China’s Ministry of Emergency Management has upgraded the emergency response level for disasters induced by severe cold weather in central China’s Hunan Province. On Sunday, the response was elevated from level-IV to level-III as low temperatures, rain, snow, and freezing conditions intensified across the region.
The cold front is not confined to Hunan. The ministry has also activated a level-IV emergency response in east China’s Jiangxi Province due to similar weather conditions. Additionally, the level-III emergency response remains in effect in Anhui and Hubei provinces, while a level-IV response continues in Hebei, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, Chongqing, Guizhou, and Shaanxi.
Since last Saturday, the ministry, in coordination with two other government departments, has dispatched 60,000 disaster relief supplies to the affected areas. These supplies include essential items such as cotton-padded coats and quilts, aiming to assist residents in coping with the harsh weather.
The severe cold wave sweeping across multiple provinces is impacting millions, disrupting daily life and posing challenges to local authorities. The escalation of the emergency response underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens during this period of extreme weather.
Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay informed about weather updates and follow guidance from local authorities. Measures are being taken to ensure adequate heating, maintain transportation services, and provide support to vulnerable populations.
