Beijing is set to significantly increase its green spaces in 2024, aiming for 91 percent of residents to have access to parks and small green areas within a 500-meter radius. This initiative was announced at a recent work conference by the Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau.
According to Gao Dawei, head of the bureau, the city plans to afforest 10,000 mu (approximately 666.67 hectares) and add an additional 200 hectares of urban green space next year. “Our aim is to transform Beijing into a garden city nestled within forests,” Gao stated, emphasizing the city’s commitment to enhancing the living environment for its inhabitants.
This ambitious plan reflects Beijing’s continued efforts to promote ecological conservation and improve urban living standards. By increasing the proximity of green spaces, the city hopes to provide residents with more opportunities for recreation and a healthier environment.
