Pakistan Hosts US-Iran Peace Talks as Ceasefire Holds

Pakistan prepares to welcome high-stakes diplomatic negotiations between the United States and Iran this weekend, with a two-week ceasefire creating rare conditions for dialogue. U.S. Vice President JD Vance will lead Washington's delegation to Islamabad starting April 12, following an invitation from Pakistan's prime minister aimed at easing regional tensions.

The White House confirmed the talks will focus on maintaining maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of global oil shipments pass. U.S. President Donald Trump has emphasized the need for "complete, immediate and safe opening" of the strategic waterway, offering American logistical support to manage shipping traffic.

"Our military will coordinate safe passage during this temporary pause in hostilities," Iran's Foreign Minister stated, while reaffirming Tehran's right to protect its territorial waters.

Analysts suggest the ceasefire – set to expire April 24 – provides a critical window to address escalating regional tensions. Business leaders are closely monitoring outcomes that could impact energy markets and trade routes across Asia.
