China Reaffirms Global Diplomacy Goals at NPC Press Conference

Foreign Minister Wang Yi outlined China's diplomatic priorities for 2026 during a high-profile press conference at the National People's Congress (NPC) session in Beijing on Sunday. The event drew international attention as Wang addressed questions ranging from economic partnerships to regional security frameworks.

Wang emphasized China's commitment to 'win-win cooperation' in global governance, stating: 'This year marks a critical phase in building a community with a shared future for mankind.' He highlighted progress in Belt and Road Initiative projects across Asia and Africa while reaffirming support for multilateral institutions like the WTO and APEC.

On cross-strait relations, Wang reiterated Beijing's position that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, urging the Taiwan authorities to 'return to the common political foundation of One China.' He noted that over 1,200 Taiwanese businesses had recently expanded investments in the Chinese mainland through simplified approval processes.

When asked about tensions in the South China Sea, Wang called for regional dialogue while firmly opposing 'external interference' in Asian affairs. The minister also confirmed plans for a new APEC Leaders' Meeting format to address post-pandemic economic recovery strategies.
