Lishui’s 400-Meter Dragon Lights Up Lantern Festival Celebrations

Lishui City in Zhejiang Province illuminated the night sky on March 2, 2026, with one of China's most spectacular Lantern Festival celebrations to date. Over 2,000 performers orchestrated a breathtaking parade featuring more than 10 elaborate dragon dances, culminating in a 400-meter-long dragon requiring 350 coordinated participants to bring to life.

The event, held on the eve of the 15th day of the Lunar New Year, drew thousands of spectators to witness this fusion of cultural heritage and modern spectacle. Traditional drum ensembles accompanied the sinuous movements of the dragons, their illuminated scales reflecting centuries-old artistic traditions while incorporating LED lighting technology.

This year's celebrations hold particular significance as communities across the Chinese mainland resume large-scale cultural events following recent health advisories. Local authorities emphasized the festival's role in preserving intangible cultural heritage while fostering community cohesion.

The Lantern Festival, marking the final day of Spring Festival observances, traditionally features rice ball consumption and riddle-solving activities. Lishui's innovative approach to scale and presentation sets a new benchmark for cultural celebrations in the Yangtze River Delta region.
