Xingwen UNESCO Global Geopark, a geological marvel in Yibin City, Sichuan Province, is preparing to captivate global audiences as one of four official sub-venues for China's 2026 Spring Festival Gala. The park's dramatic karst landscapes – including jagged stone forests, cathedral-like caves, and the awe-inspiring Tiankeng sinkhole complex – will feature prominently in live broadcasts during the Lunar New Year's Eve celebration on February 16.
Natural Stage for Cultural Celebration
Selected for its unique topography, the geopark will alternate with Beijing's main stage to present regional cultural performances. This marks the first time southern Sichuan's distinct folk traditions will be highlighted on the gala's national platform. Local artisans are preparing light installations that will illuminate the park's natural stone pillars during the broadcast.
Year-Round Geological Tourism
Beyond the gala spotlight, the 156-square-kilometer geopark offers visitors extraordinary hiking through collapsed sinkholes and boat tours along subterranean rivers. Recent infrastructure upgrades completed this month include new multilingual interpretive displays explaining the region's 490-million-year geological history.
