Guangdong Province, a hub of economic and cultural dynamism in southern China, is currently hosting the first APEC Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) in Guangzhou from February 1 to 10, 2026. The event, part of the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting preparations, coincides with vibrant Lunar New Year and Lantern Festival celebrations across the region.

Highlights include lantern installations featuring cutting-edge technology, such as the "APEC Partners" display, which symbolizes cross-regional cooperation and shared development goals. These activities underscore Guangdong’s maritime history and its role as a bridge for international dialogue.
As the SOM sessions near their conclusion on February 10, delegates from APEC member economies are also engaging with community-led cultural programs, offering a glimpse into the province’s efforts to balance economic growth with cultural preservation. Analysts note the meetings could strengthen trade partnerships ahead of November’s APEC Leaders’ Gathering.
