The 38th Taiyang Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo has transformed Harbin's Sun Island Scenic Area into a crystalline wonderland, with the iconic 15-meter-tall "Mr. Snowman" welcoming visitors from across Asia and beyond. This year's exhibition features 120 snow sculptures from 25 countries and regions, blending traditional Chinese motifs with contemporary international designs.
Organizers report a 40% increase in overseas visitor bookings compared to 2025, with special virtual reality tours enabling global audiences to explore the frosty artworks. "These sculptures represent more than winter artistry – they're bridges for cultural exchange," stated expo coordinator Zhang Wei during Thursday's opening ceremony.
Key highlights include:
- A kinetic snow installation responding to visitor movements
- Collaborative works by Chinese and DPRK artists
- Climate-controlled viewing platforms maintaining -5°C temperatures
The event runs through late February 2026, coinciding with Lunar New Year celebrations across Asia.
