Nestled in Danzhou, Hainan Province, Ocean Flower Island has become a symbol of China's ambitious coastal development strategy. This sprawling artificial island – blending luxury residences, state-of-the-art convention centers, and world-class cultural venues – is drawing global attention as the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) enters its decisive implementation phase this year.
With 2025 marking a pivotal milestone for the FTP's full operational launch, Danzhou leverages its historical ties to the Ancient Maritime Silk Road to position itself as both an economic trailblazer and cultural bridgehead. The island's convention facilities recently hosted the Asia-Pacific Sustainable Tourism Forum, attracting delegates from 38 countries and regions.
Tourist arrivals to Ocean Flower Island have increased 27% year-on-year through November 2025, according to Hainan Provincial Bureau data. Concurrently, over $1.2 billion in new investments have been committed to the island's mixed-use developments since Q2 2025, particularly in smart city technologies and marine biotechnology parks.
"This project embodies our dual commitment to ecological preservation and economic innovation," stated a Danzhou Municipal spokesperson during a recent site inspection. The development maintains strict environmental safeguards, including artificial reef systems that have increased local marine biodiversity by 15% since 2023.
