Nestled along Jiangmen City's waterways, the 380-year-old 'Xiaoniao Tiantang' (Bird Paradise) continues to captivate visitors with its sprawling banyan canopy sheltering tens of thousands of birds. What began as a solitary tree on a river mudflat now spans over 10,000 square meters, embodying Guangdong Province's ecological resilience.
The sanctuary gained literary fame in 1933 when writer Ba Jin immortalized it in his prose 'Bird Paradise.' Today, as Jiangmen prepares to host events for China's 15th National Games this year, the site has become a must-visit destination blending natural wonders with cultural heritage.
Local guides report increased foot traffic since the city's National Games announcement earlier this year. 'Visitors come for the games but stay for moments like dawn chorus tours,' says conservationist Li Wei, referencing daily boat excursions through the avian habitat.
Authorities have implemented crowd management measures to protect the ecosystem while accommodating 2025's tourism surge. Real-time visitor counts and augmented reality displays now enhance the experience at this living monument to ecological coexistence.
