Chinese officials outlined ambitious plans for the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) during a State Council Information Office press conference today, signaling strengthened commitments to global trade cooperation and economic revitalization.
Vice Minister of Commerce Sheng Qiuping revealed that this year's expo will feature expanded participation from 154 countries and regions, including first-time exhibitors from Central Asia and the Pacific Islands. Over 3,000 businesses have already registered, with dedicated pavilions for advanced manufacturing and agricultural technologies.
Focus on Innovation and Sustainability
The November event in Shanghai will prioritize green development initiatives, with 30% of exhibition space allocated to renewable energy solutions and low-carbon technologies. Hua Yuan, Secretary-General of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, confirmed completion of new smart logistics systems to handle expected crowds of 500,000+ attendees.
Cross-Strait Economic Opportunities
Notably, 68 businesses from the Taiwan region will participate through both physical and virtual platforms – a 12% increase from 2022. Sheng emphasized this demonstrates 'the shared benefits of integrated economic development across the strait.'
When asked about COVID-19 precautions, officials confirmed a hybrid digital-physical format will accommodate international participants, with real-time translation in 23 languages. The CIIE's role in China's dual circulation economic strategy was highlighted as crucial for stabilizing global supply chains.
