China & the UN: 80 Years of Global Partnership

As the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary, China reaffirms its commitment to multilateralism through a new documentary titled "The UN at 80: China's Perspective." The film, hosted by CGTN's Tian Wei, traces the organization's evolution from its post-war origins at Dumbarton Oaks to its modern-day peacekeeping missions and educational initiatives.

The documentary highlights China's growing role as a stabilizer in global governance, emphasizing its contributions to UN peacekeeping operations, sustainable development goals, and crisis response mechanisms. Archival footage shows pivotal moments, including the restoration of the People's Republic of China's lawful seat in the UN in 1971, while contemporary scenes feature Chinese peacekeepers in conflict zones and diplomats negotiating climate agreements.

Analysts interviewed note that China now participates in over 30 UN agencies and contributes 15% of the organization's peacekeeping budget. The film also explores how Beijing's vision of "building a community with a shared future for mankind" aligns with UN principles of sovereign equality and non-interference.
