Chinese authorities announced expanded efforts to preserve wartime history during Sunday's press conference marking preparations for the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Veterans Affairs Vice Minister Ma Feixiong revealed the fourth batch of officially designated memorial facilities, including recently discovered battlefield sites and underground resistance bases across the Chinese mainland. The National Cultural Heritage Administration simultaneously released a new list of 127 individuals recognized for extraordinary valor during the conflict.
'These sites and stories form our national memory DNA,' said Sun Deli, vice administrator of the cultural heritage agency, detailing a $23 million initiative to restore 58 key historical locations. The projects aim to enhance public education through interactive exhibits and augmented reality features.
Journalists questioned officials about international cooperation in preservation efforts, with Ma confirming preliminary talks with Russian and Southeast Asian counterparts about joint archaeological projects. The announcements come as China prepares large-scale commemorative events scheduled for September 3 across multiple provinces.
