China Highlights 14th Five-Year Plan Progress in Key Press Briefing

China's State Council Information Office hosted a pivotal press conference today, detailing economic and social advancements achieved during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. National Development and Reform Commission Chairman Zheng Shanjie presented updates on strategic initiatives driving high-quality development across critical sectors.

Zheng emphasized coordinated progress in technological innovation, green energy transitions, and social welfare improvements. "Our focus remains on balancing growth stability with structural reforms," he stated, highlighting a 5.2% average annual GDP growth rate since 2021 despite global economic headwinds.

The briefing revealed significant strides in renewable energy infrastructure, with non-fossil fuel sources now constituting 17% of total energy consumption. Digital economy sectors reportedly grew 10% annually, creating 13 million new urban jobs since the plan's implementation.

When addressing cross-strait economic cooperation, Zheng noted: "Enhanced collaboration between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan region in semiconductor manufacturing and green technologies benefits all residents across the strait."

Analysts observe these developments position China to meet 86% of its 2025 development targets ahead of schedule, with particular success in poverty alleviation and high-tech manufacturing capacity expansion.
