In the lush tropical expanse of Hainan Province, two furry ambassadors have captured hearts across Asia. Giant panda brothers Gong Gong and Shun Shun, residents at the Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park and Botanical Garden, recently marked seven years of thriving in China's southernmost province – a testament to innovative wildlife conservation and cross-regional ecological cooperation.
Park staff describe the 12-year-old siblings as having adapted remarkably to Hainan's climate through carefully designed habitats that replicate their native Sichuan environment. Their daily routine includes bamboo feasts weighing up to 40kg, enrichment activities like puzzle feeders, and regular health checkups by a dedicated veterinary team.
"Their favorite pastime is playing in the misting system during Hainan's warmer afternoons," shared lead zookeeper Li Wei. "Watching them reminds us why preserving biodiversity matters."
The pandas' successful acclimatization coincides with growing eco-tourism in Hainan, which saw a 23% year-on-year increase in wildlife park visitors during 2023. Conservationists highlight this project as part of broader efforts to establish Hainan as an international ecological hub under China's green development initiatives.
