In a significant development after more than 15 months of conflict, Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire and hostage release deal on Wednesday. The agreement is set to commence on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. local time in Gaza (06:30 GMT).
The plan, outlined in three phases over 42 days, requires Hamas to hand over 33 hostages in the initial phase. Simultaneously, Israel will begin a phased withdrawal of its troops from the northern Gaza Strip and start releasing Palestinian prisoners.
According to an Egyptian security source, the Rafah crossing—the only passage linking the Gaza Strip with Egypt—is scheduled to reopen on Sunday. Approximately 600 aid trucks are expected to enter Gaza via the crossing, providing much-needed humanitarian assistance.
As the ceasefire takes effect, the international community watches closely, hopeful that this agreement will pave the way for lasting peace and stability in the region.
