More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, stories of compassion and community support are emerging from the affected areas.
In Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town, the firefighters of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on more than just their usual duties. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the village to witness firsthand how these firefighters are going beyond the call of duty to assist the villagers.
Amid the rubble and ongoing reconstruction, the firefighters have been preparing lunch for the villagers, ensuring they receive warm meals during this challenging time. Their efforts have not only provided much-needed sustenance but also fostered a sense of solidarity within the community.
“We want to do everything we can to help the villagers recover from the earthquake,” said a member of the firefighting unit. “Cooking meals is just one way we can support them and show that we are here for them.”
The firefighters’ initiative reflects the collective spirit of resilience and cooperation that is helping Dingri County rebuild. As reconstruction progresses, stories like these highlight the human connections that strengthen communities in the face of adversity.
The dedication of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit serves as an inspiring example of compassion and service, bringing hope to the earthquake-affected regions of Xizang.
