Firefighters Prepare Lunch for Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang’s Dingri County

It's been over a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, heartwarming stories of solidarity and support are emerging from the affected areas.

In the small village of Cuo'ang, nestled in Quluo Town, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on more than just their duty to protect. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline where these brave men and women are preparing lunch for the villagers displaced by the quake.

The firefighters, accustomed to battling blazes in the rugged terrains of Xizang, have now turned their efforts to nurturing the community. Amidst the chilly winter air, they don aprons over their uniforms, chop vegetables, stir steaming pots, and serve hot meals to grateful residents.

\"Providing meals is just a small way for us to help,\" says Li Wei, a member of the firefighting unit. \"We want the villagers to know they're not alone during this difficult time.\"

The communal meals have become a beacon of hope in Cuo'ang Village. For many residents, the daily lunches are more than sustenance; they're a symbol of unity and resilience.

\"Seeing the firefighters here gives us strength,\" shares Tashi, a local villager. \"Their kindness reminds us that we can rebuild together.\"

As reconstruction progresses, the cooperative spirit between the firefighters and villagers exemplifies the solidarity that is crucial in overcoming the aftermath of natural disasters.

With continued efforts from local authorities, volunteers, and the selfless firefighters, Dingri County is steadily moving towards recovery. The shared meals in Cuo'ang Village are a testament to the enduring human spirit and the power of community in times of adversity.
