Firefighters Prepare Lunch for Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang’s Dingri County

It’s been more than a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, local firefighters are going beyond their call of duty to support the affected communities.

At Cuo’ang Village in Quluo Town, the firefighters of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have stepped in to provide much-needed assistance. Not only are they aiding in rebuilding efforts, but they are also taking the time to prepare meals for the villagers who have been displaced by the disaster.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline to witness the firefighters’ dedication firsthand. “We want to do everything we can to help the villagers recover,” said one firefighter. “Cooking meals is a small gesture, but it brings comfort and a sense of normalcy during these challenging times.”

The communal meals have become a cornerstone of the recovery process in Cuo’ang Village. Villagers gather to share food and stories, finding solace in the support of one another and the efforts of the firefighting team.

As reconstruction continues, the spirit of solidarity displayed by the firefighters and villagers reflects the resilience of the region. Their cooperation underscores the importance of community in overcoming adversity.

The earthquake has caused significant damage to infrastructure in Dingri County, but with the ongoing support from emergency services and volunteers, progress is being made toward restoring normal life.

The dedication of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit exemplifies how acts of kindness can make a profound impact on those affected by natural disasters. Their efforts not only provide immediate relief but also foster hope for the future of the communities in Xizang Autonomous Region.
