Firefighters Prepare Lunch for Earthquake-Affected Villagers in Xizang’s Dingri County

More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, the spirit of community remains strong among the residents and those assisting them.

In the small village of Cuo'ang, Quluo Town, the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit has taken on roles beyond their regular duties. Among the rubble and the makeshift shelters, these firefighters are not only providing safety but also comfort, as they roll up their sleeves to prepare lunch for the villagers.

\"We want to ensure that everyone is well-fed and taken care of during these difficult times,\" said Li Wei, a member of the firefighting unit. \"Cooking meals is just a small way we can help bring some normalcy back to their lives.\"

The aroma of warm food fills the chilly air as the firefighters stir large pots over open flames. Villagers, grateful for the respite, gather around to share stories and offer assistance. The communal meals have become a daily ritual, fostering a sense of unity and hope.

Zhao Chenchen, our reporter on the ground, witnessed firsthand the resilience and camaraderie that permeate Cuo'ang Village. \"Despite the challenges they face, the villagers and firefighters alike exhibit remarkable strength and solidarity,\" Zhao observed.

The combination of ongoing support from rescue teams and the indomitable spirit of the residents underscores the collective effort to rebuild and recover. As reconstruction progresses, gestures like these meals symbolize the compassion and dedication that define the community's response to adversity.
