It's been over a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake shook Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. Amid ongoing resettlement and reconstruction efforts, a group of dedicated firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a new role: community cooks.
In the small village of Cuo'ang, located in Quluo Town, the firefighters have been working tirelessly not only to assist with rebuilding but also to provide comfort to the villagers in any way they can. Today, that means preparing a warm, hearty lunch.
Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the village to witness firsthand the compassionate efforts of these brave individuals. With smiles and a sense of camaraderie, the firefighters chopped vegetables, stirred steaming pots, and served meals to grateful residents.
\"The earthquake may have shaken our homes, but it hasn't shaken our spirit,\" said one of the firefighters as he handed a bowl of soup to an elderly resident. \"We're all part of this community now, and we want to do everything we can to help everyone get back on their feet.\"
Villagers expressed deep appreciation for the support. \"It's comforting to see them here,\" shared a local mother. \"Their presence gives us hope that things will return to normal.\"
As reconstruction continues, the firefighters' efforts go beyond their official duties, embodying a spirit of unity and resilience that is helping to heal a community in the aftermath of disaster.
