Firefighters Prepare Lunch for Earthquake-Affected Villagers in Xizang’s Dingri County

It has been more than a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. The quake left many villages in disarray, with residents grappling with the aftermath as resettlement and reconstruction efforts are still underway.

In the midst of this challenging time, a group of firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a new role. At Cuo’ang Village in Quluo Town, Dingri County, these dedicated firefighters are not only providing emergency services but also extending a helping hand to the villagers by preparing lunch for them.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline to witness firsthand the camaraderie and community spirit that have emerged in the wake of the disaster. Amidst the ruins, the aroma of freshly cooked meals brings a sense of normalcy and comfort to the affected residents.

The firefighters can be seen chopping vegetables, stirring large pots, and serving meals with warm smiles. Their efforts go beyond their duty, reflecting a deep commitment to supporting the villagers not just physically but emotionally as well.

One of the villagers expressed gratitude, saying, “The firefighters have been a great help. Their kindness gives us hope to rebuild our homes and lives.”

As reconstruction continues, the collaborative efforts between the local authorities, rescue teams, and the community are crucial in overcoming the challenges posed by the earthquake.
