Firefighters Prepare Lunch for Earthquake-Affected Villagers in Xizang

It has been more than a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. Resettlement and reconstruction efforts are still underway as the community works tirelessly to rebuild.

Amid the recovery, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a new role—preparing meals for the affected villagers. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited Cuo'ang Village in Quluo Town, Dingri County, to witness firsthand how these brave individuals are supporting the community beyond their usual duties.

At Cuo'ang Village, the aroma of freshly cooked food fills the air as firefighters chop vegetables, stir pots, and serve steaming dishes to grateful residents. Their actions provide not only nourishment but also comfort and a sense of normalcy to those who have lost so much.

"We are deeply touched by their kindness," one villager shared. "They are not only fighting fires but also helping us in every possible way."

The firefighters see this gesture as part of their commitment to the people. "We are here to protect and serve," said a member of the unit. "In times like these, every effort counts, and we want to do whatever we can to help."

As reconstruction continues, acts of solidarity like these highlight the resilience and unity of the community in the face of adversity. The collaborative efforts between residents and first responders are paving the way toward recovery and hope.
