Firefighters Prepare Lunch for Earthquake-Affected Villagers in Xizang

More than a week after a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7, resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue. Amidst the ongoing recovery, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a new role: community chefs.

In Cuo'ang Village, Quluo Town, Dingri County, our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, witnessed firsthand how these brave firefighters are supporting the local community beyond their usual duties. With many villagers displaced and resources strained, the firefighters have rolled up their sleeves to prepare lunch for the affected residents.

"Our primary mission is to safeguard the people," said one firefighter. "In times like these, that means doing whatever we can to help, even if it’s cooking meals."

The aroma of freshly cooked food fills the air as the firefighters chop vegetables, stir steaming pots, and serve hearty meals to grateful villagers. For many residents, this act of kindness is a beacon of hope amid the challenges they face in the quake's aftermath.

"We are deeply touched by their support," said a resident of Cuo'ang Village. "Their presence reassures us that we are not alone in this recovery."

The spirit of solidarity displayed by the firefighters exemplifies the collective effort underway in Xizang to rebuild and heal. As reconstruction progresses, the community remains resilient, buoyed by acts of compassion and unity.

Resettlement efforts continue, with authorities working tirelessly to restore infrastructure and provide essential services. The cooperation between local residents and support teams underscores the strength of the community's bonds.

As the region moves forward, stories like these highlight the human connections that form the foundation of recovery—proving that when people come together, even the toughest challenges can be overcome.
