More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, the spirit of community shines brighter than ever.
In the small village of Cuo’ang, nestled in Quluo Town of Dingri County, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a new role: chefs for the day. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, witnessed firsthand how these brave firefighters are preparing lunch for the villagers affected by the quake.
“We want to do more than just rescue operations,” said one of the firefighters. “By cooking for the villagers, we hope to bring them comfort and a sense of normalcy during these difficult times.”
The aroma of traditional dishes wafted through the air as the firefighters worked diligently over open flames and makeshift kitchens. Villagers gathered around, their faces reflecting both gratitude and relief.
“It’s been hard since the earthquake,” shared a resident of Cuo’ang Village. “But seeing the firefighters here, not just helping rebuild but also sharing meals with us, gives us hope.”
The firefighters’ efforts go beyond just providing a meal; they are fostering community bonds and offering emotional support to those who have lost so much.
As the region continues to recover, acts of kindness like these highlight the resilience and unity of the people in Xizang. The collaborative efforts between rescue teams and villagers are a testament to the strength found in solidarity.
