Firefighters in Xizang Prepare Heartwarming Lunch for Quake-Affected Villagers

Over a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake shook Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. The tremors left many villagers displaced, and resettlement and reconstruction efforts are ongoing.

In the midst of this challenging time, the firefighters of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have become more than just emergency responders—they have become pillars of the community. At Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town, Dingri County, these brave men and women have taken on a new role: cooks.

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline where these firefighters were busy preparing lunch for the villagers. The aroma of hot meals wafted through the chilly air, offering a comforting reminder of normalcy for those affected by the quake.

“We want to do more than just provide emergency assistance,” said one firefighter. “By cooking for the villagers, we hope to bring them warmth and support during this difficult time.”

The villagers gathered around, grateful not only for the food but for the sense of community the firefighters fostered. Children laughed and played nearby, their spirits lifted despite the recent hardships.

As reconstruction efforts continue, acts of kindness like these highlight the resilience and unity of the people in Xizang. The collaborative efforts between local authorities, emergency responders, and residents showcase a strong commitment to rebuilding and moving forward together.
