Firefighters in Xizang Cook Lunch for Earthquake-Affected Villagers

It has been more than a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. Amidst ongoing resettlement and reconstruction efforts, a beacon of hope emerges in the form of dedicated firefighters.

In the serene yet shaken Cuo'ang Village of Quluo Town, members of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a role beyond their usual call of duty. Donning aprons over their uniforms, they prepare steaming pots of rice and stir fragrant dishes, bringing not just food but comfort to the villagers who have lost so much.

\"We are here to support the community in any way we can,\" says one firefighter, skillfully slicing vegetables as he speaks. \"Cooking meals is just a small part, but it brings everyone together.\"

The communal meals have become a daily ritual, offering a moment of solace and normalcy. Villagers gather around, sharing stories and expressing gratitude for the firefighters' efforts. For many, this simple act of preparing and sharing food has bridged the gap between disaster and recovery.

\"Their kindness warms our hearts,\" shares a local resident. \"In these difficult times, it's the support from people like them that gives us strength.\"

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, witnessed firsthand the camaraderie and resilience that define Cuo'ang Village during this challenging period. As reconstruction continues, the firefighters' dedication serves as a reminder of the power of community and solidarity.

The road to recovery may be long, but with each meal shared and each gesture of support, Dingri County moves one step closer to healing.
