More than a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, the spirit of community and compassion shines brightly.
In Cuo’ang Village, Quluo Town, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have gone beyond their call of duty. Not only are they assisting in rebuilding efforts, but they are also preparing warm meals for the quake-affected villagers.
Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, visited the frontline where the firefighters were busy cooking lunch for the residents. The aroma of freshly prepared food filled the air, bringing comfort and a sense of normalcy to those who have lost so much.
“We want to do everything we can to support the villagers during this difficult time,” said one of the firefighters. “A hearty meal can lift spirits and provide strength for the days ahead.”
The firefighters’ actions have been met with gratitude from the local community. “Their kindness warms our hearts,” shared a villager. “They are not just heroes fighting fires; they are our friends standing by us.”
The collaborative efforts between the rescue teams and the villagers exemplify the resilience and unity of the people in Xizang as they work towards rebuilding their homes and lives.
