Firefighters Cook Up Hope for Quake-Hit Villagers in Xizang

Over a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, a beacon of hope shines in the form of dedicated firefighters bringing comfort to the affected communities.

In the remote Cuo'ang Village of Quluo Town, the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit has taken on more than just rescue operations. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, joined them on the frontline as they prepared a hearty lunch for the villagers who have been displaced by the quake.

The aroma of freshly cooked meals fills the chilly mountain air as firefighters chop vegetables and stir steaming pots over open flames. For many residents, this gesture is more than just food; it's a symbol of solidarity and reassurance that they are not alone in these trying times.

One firefighter remarked, "We are here not only to protect but also to support the community in any way we can. Seeing the smiles on the villagers' faces when we share a meal together is incredibly rewarding."

Villagers gathered around communal tables, sharing stories and finding comfort in the warmth of companionship. "The earthquake took a lot from us, but the kindness of these young men gives us strength," a local resident shared with gratitude.

The collaborative efforts between the rescuers and the community highlight the resilience and unity that emerge in the face of natural disasters. As rebuilding progresses, such moments of humanity lay the foundation for a stronger, more connected future for the people of Xizang.
