Firefighters Cook Meals for Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang’s Dingri County

More than a week has passed since a powerful magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. Amid the ongoing resettlement and reconstruction efforts, stories of hope and resilience are emerging from the affected communities.

In Cuo'ang Village, Quluo Town, one of the hardest-hit areas, the firefighters of the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a new role. Beyond their duties of ensuring safety and aiding in reconstruction, these dedicated individuals are donning aprons and stepping into the kitchen to prepare meals for the villagers.

\"We want to do more than just provide physical assistance,\" says Liu Wei, a member of the firefighting unit. \"Cooking meals is our way of bringing comfort and a sense of normalcy back to the community.\"

As smoke rises from makeshift outdoor kitchens, the aroma of freshly cooked rice and stir-fried vegetables fills the air. Villagers, many of whom have lost their homes, gather to share these meals, finding solace in the warmth of community and the support of the firefighters.

Local resident Tashi expressed his gratitude: \"The firefighters have been a beacon of hope for us. Their kindness reminds us that we are not alone in this difficult time.\"

Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, witnessed firsthand the camaraderie between the firefighters and the villagers. The simple act of sharing a meal has become a symbol of solidarity, helping to heal the emotional wounds left by the earthquake.

The efforts in Cuo'ang Village reflect a broader spirit of unity across Xizang. As rebuilding continues, the collaboration between emergency responders and local communities provides a foundation for recovery and resilience.

While challenges remain, the determination and compassion demonstrated by the firefighters and villagers alike offer a hopeful outlook for the future of Dingri County.
