Over a week has passed since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7. Resettlement and reconstruction efforts are still underway, with communities coming together to support one another.
In Cuo'ang Village, Quluo Town, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a new role. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, joined them as they prepared lunch for villagers affected by the earthquake.
The firefighters, usually seen battling blazes, shifted their focus to the kitchen, cooking hearty meals to nourish those displaced by the disaster. Amid the aroma of home-cooked food, the village resonated with a renewed sense of hope and camaraderie.
“We want to do more than just fight fires—we're here to help our people rebuild their lives,” said one firefighter. “Sharing a meal is a small way to bring comfort during these challenging times.”
Villagers expressed deep gratitude for the support. “Their kindness warms our hearts,” shared a resident of Cuo'ang Village. “It's encouraging to see everyone working together.”
As relief efforts continue, such acts of solidarity highlight the resilience of the people in Xizang. Authorities remain dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents as the region moves towards recovery.
